Keynote Fireside Chat: An evidence-based approach to the hybrid versus return to office mandate debate
There is still much discussion of the (so-called) debate around hybrid versus return to office and, if hybrid, if there is an optimal number of days to be in or out of the office. Like all such discussions, the right answer is 'it depends'. There isn't a right answer - there isn't a 'debate' - it all depends on organizational objectives and how practices and policies around hybrid impact (or do not impact) these objectives. But how can we identify the potential costs and benefits to the business of different hybrid or RTO policies? Answering such questions is exactly what an Evidence-Based HR approach to practice is designed to do. It does this through a combination of critical thinking and the use of the best available evidence from multiple sources. Issues addressed in the presentation include:
>What is Evidence-Based HR and how does it work?
>How can we identify key strategic objectives of the business and the role of employee behaviour in achieving those objectives?
>How are our current hybrid policies impacting employee behaviour in ways relevant to strategic objectives? What are the costs and benefits?
>How might changes to current hybrid policies impact employee behaviour in ways relevant to strategic objectives? What are the costs and benefits
>What types of evidence do we need to collect and from which sources to answer these questions?
>How can we use the best available evidecne to answer these questions and enable us to make better-informed decisions around hybrid policites?

Gambling harms – the hidden addiction putting your business and your employees at risk
Unlike drug or alcohol addiction, the signs of gambling harms are incredibly difficult to spot. There is also a huge amount of stigma associated with gambling addiction, so the likelihood of your employees disclosing this is very slim. In this session, you can listen to a lived experience perspective of gambling harms and get some helpful tips on what you can do to support your employees and protect your business.
- 27% of employees have been gambling while at work in the last 4 weeks
- For every one person experiencing gambling harms, there are between 6-10 people also affected, work colleagues, friends, family
- Few companies (under 10%) have policies or training on the issue, which has a hidden cost of potentially millions
- Gambling harms is now a major public health issue screened for by GP’s – so why aren’t more people talking about it in workplaces?
- Very few EAP programmes consider the issue – missing help and support that could save lives
- Early conversations based on experience of how to have them, are vital

Beyond sentiment – getting to the heart of what really drives culture
Have you found yourself caught in the 'you said: we did' cycle trying to evolve your culture, with employee feedback or a culture audit that just gives you a list of surface level fixes that you know won't really change anything? Let’s be honest—most culture audits and employee surveys often don’t tell you what you really need to know. Giving you full access to our Culture Catalyst Scorecard, we’ll help you cut through the smoke and focus on the elements that truly drive culture in your business.
This workshop will be covering: How to pinpoint the real forces driving your culture - beyond just employee sentiment surveys, using a data-driven approach
- Why focusing on culture mechanics (not just moods) is key - and how to map leadership tone, management impact, colleague readiness, and systems & processes
- A simple but powerful framework - to help you decode what’s happening in your organisation and identify the biggest opportunities for cultural alignment
- Actionable steps to move from reactive audits to proactive transformation - so you can influence your whole organisational system rather than relying on short-term interventions
